Univision is the largest Spanish television and radio broadcasting network in the United States. The network airs entertainment, news, and sports programming and is aimed at serving a Hispanic American audience.

Howell Electric was selected to provide pre-construction, electrical construction, fire alarm systems, emergency power systems, infrastructure for three large satellite dishes, and a 150’ radio broadcast tower for Univision’s 45,000sf media center in San Jose.

This facility features: 4,000sf Data Center, 2,400sf newsroom studio, 3,000sf television studio, three radio station studios, high end Class A office space, conference rooms, and break room.

The emergency electrical systems consisted of a 2000Amp 480Volt electrical service, 750kW emergency generator, 300kW UPS, and a dual feed redundant emergency power distribution system to support the data center.

Complete Genomics is an established technology leader in whole human genome sequencing based in San Jose, California. Using its proprietary sequencing instruments, chemistry, and software, the company has sequenced more than 20,000 whole human genomes. The company’s mission is to improve human health by providing researchers and clinicians with the core technologies to understand, prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases and conditions.

Howell Electric was selected to provide pre-construction services, electrical engineering, electrical construction, data cabling, fire alarm systems, security systems, access controls, CCTV, and commissioning for Complete Genomics new 68,513sf corporate office and life science facility.

This facility features: In-house data center, multiple large sequencing labs wit h precision humidity controls, sample labs, wet labs, large general purpose labs, lab support, state of the art executive briefing center, open office areas, private offices, conference rooms, large break room, and all hands areas.

MEP systems consisted of new 3000Amp 480Volt electrical service, in-house data center with 1.50MW emergency generator, 500kW uninterruptible power system, extensive distribution for commercial and emergency power systems, electrical distribution to sequencing robots, IT equipment, 210-Ton chiller plant, boilers, CDA, and VAC systems.

AT&T

AT&T is the largest communications company in the world.

Howell Electric was selected to provide electrical construction and commissioning for AT&T’s electrical service and generator upgrade at their Milpitas Data Center.

This project features: a new 4000Amp 480Volt bussed electrical service. 1MW emergency generator, 3000Amp emergency power distribution, multiple automatic transfer switches, and interfacing with the existing DC power system. Existing electrical systems were transferred to the new installation without interruption.

Magma Design Automation Data Center Expansion

Magma Design Automation develops software for Electronic Design Automation (EDA) enabling integrated circuit designers to meet critical time-to-market objectives, improve chip performance, and handle multi-million gate designs.

Howell Electric was selected to provide electrical construction, UPS systems, generator systems, and commissioning for Magma Design Automation’s request to double the size and capacity of their Santa Clara data center.

This project features: 1.5MW generator, 3000Amp 480Volt automatic transfer switch, 3000Amp 480Volt emergency distribution systems, 500kVA UPS, 500kVA transformer with redundant distribution to all server cabinets, 70-Ton air cooled chiller with four large CRAC units. All work was completed with no down time to existing data center.
